4 Things You Should Never Holiday Without

September 1, 2017 , In: Travel , With: No Comments

As we speed through this year, we’re getting closer and closer to the end of the year which means one thing: holidays! I am a little travel obsessed – which probably isn’t a surprise seeing as I have a travel blog, but no matter where I’m headed, there are 4 things I never leave home without. So whether you’re going on a road trip or flying to the other side of the world, keep these 4 travel essentials in mind and you’ll be so glad you did!

1. Travel Insurance

We never want to think about anything bad happening on the road, but the truth is we can never predict the future. You could find yourself accidentally dropping your expensive camera, or you could find yourself needing expensive medical treatment. In both cases, and more, Cheap travel insurance will save the day. Of course the chances of something bad like this happening are slim – thankfully – but the truth is it can happen when you least expect it and it can quickly turn a fun holiday into a disaster. While having travel insurance wont stop bad things from happening, it will ensure that you’re not financially displaced if something bad does happen.

I’ve read too many stories about travellers ending up in hospital and their families having to desperately crowdsource in order to fund their skyrocketing medical expenses. If you can afford a holiday, you can afford travel insurance. Compare travel insurance online to find the best price and best coverage.

2. Packing Cubes

I am not sure if anyone really enjoys packing, especially when you’re packing to move between locations. I have found that packing cubes make the packing experience so much easier and more organised. An added bonus is that if the airport security need to go through your baggage, you’ll be able to keep your underwear from flying around your suitcase. I bought my packing cubes online and love how easy they make packing and how much extra stuff I can fit in a small space when I roll my clothes and use my packing cubes.

3. Lonely Planet

Even with the Internet, Lonely Planet is still a great travel accessory. With a Lonely Planet you don’t need Internet to find things out, which makes it perfect to read on a long flight or bus ride. I love how the Lonely Planet books are organised in terms of your budget, ensuring that they cater to really budget backpackers and people with a little more cushion in their budget. If you’re traveling to a few places, it might be wise to get a Lonely Planet that covers a region – like Central America, rather than the individual countries to save baggage space.

4. Travel Adapter

If you’re traveling somewhere that requires an adapter for your plugs to work, it’s best to buy one of those universal adapters with a built in surge protector. This is especially important if you’re traveling to a country that may have storms or unstable electricity. Once I was traveling with a friend and she had a standard adapter and we were in a storm and went to bed. In the morning she woke up to find her laptop’s charging cable was fried. It cost over $100 USD to replace and she was quite lucky the laptop wasn’t fried too. Be sure you get one that has inbuilt surge protection to keep your valuables safe.

Traveling is really one of life’s greatest adventures and with these four simple things you’ll be able to travel smarter and safer, ensuring that you can really focus on soaking in your trip. Happy travels!
